- American Accounting Association (AAA)
- This body is regarded as the number one association in the USA as it
relates to accounting education.
- American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA) - this is the major professional body for
accountants in the USA. To become a member, an individual will have to
complete the four (4) parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant
Examinations (CPA Exams), in addition to satisfying other
experience-related requirements. The major body that governs the
examinations is the
National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).
- Institute of Chartered Accountants in England
& Wales (ICAEW) - This is one of the major professional bodies for
accountants in Britain.
- Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA) - This is the other major professional body for
accountants in Britain. To become a member one has to complete the three
levels of the ACCA Examinations, in addition to satisfying
experience-related requirements.
- Canadian
Institute of Chartered Accountants - This is the major body for
accountants in Canada
- Association of Chartered Accountants
in the United States (ACAUS) - This body is a nonprofit professional
and educational organization representing interests of over 5,000 U.S.
based chartered accountants from the home institutes of Chartered
Accountants across the globe. These include Australia, Canada, England &
Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and South Africa.
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of
Jamaica (ICAJ) - this is the premier association of accountants in
Jamaica. To become a member, one has to successfully complete the ACCA
examinations or the Masters of Science (MSc.) degree in Accounting at
the University of the West Indies. Additionally, a minimum of three
continuous years of related work experience is required.
- Institute of Management Accountants
(IMA) - this is the professional body for management accountants in
the USA. To become a member one has to pass the Certified Management
Accountant (CMA) Examinations.
- Institute of Internal Auditors
(IIA) - US - this is the professional body for internal auditors in
the USA. To become a member one has to pass the
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Examinations. (You can now sit the

more details)
- Institute of Internal Auditors
(IIA) - UK - this is the professional body for internal auditors in
the UK.
- Jamaican Institute
of Internal Auditors (JIIA) - This is the Jamaican Chapter of the US
body.
